Three days on the C&O Canal Towpath
Cumberland MD > Harpers Ferry WV
Rollin through the C&O
Facing a mix of weather in the forecast we set out on a three day bikepacking trip on the C&O Canal Towpath starting in Cumberland Maryland and ending in Harpers Ferry West Virginia. Having modest milage goals per day we road along the Potomac River and camped in remote clearings along the bank.
Not So good…
A rogue stick sent from the mechanical gods turned Andrew’s rear derailleur into the equivalent of a crushed beer can. Conveniently Craig and I left Andrew stranded 10 miles behind us without reliable cell service. Shedding the derailleur, rear fender, and half the chain we converted his geared bike into a single speed as if we were back in 2005.
